Instructions for Macintosh OS9 and previous version users

The submit an application for an NHMRC Project Grant you will need to use the software provided on this page.

Computer prerequisites

To successfully complete the download, your system will require one of the following sets of specifications:

Macintosh (use Filler 68K Installer hyperlink in step 2)

  • You need a 68040 processor or better with at least 5MB spare RAM
  • You need system 7.0 or later

Macintosh PowerPC (use Filler PPC Installer hyperlink in step 2)

  • You need a PowerPC with at least 5MB spare RAM
  • You need system 7.0 or later

To submit an application for an NHMRC Project Grant, you will need to download both Informed Filler and the new NHMRC Project Grant Application Template to your computer. If you participated in the last round of NHMRC project grant applications, you may already have Informed Filler on your computer, in which case you will only need to install the NHMRC Project Grant Application Template.

If you do not have Informed Filler installed on your computer you will be required to download two files from this web site, the Informed Filler Software and the NHMRC Project Grant Application Template. Step by step instructions are provided below to assist you in this process.

Before you start the download process, we suggest you print these instructions if possible and close all other applications on your computer.

Also, if you participated in last year's application process, you MUST delete all existing application form templates from the informed/template directory on your computer prior to starting the download process.

Download and install steps

Step 1.

If you have previously application processes, make sure you have deleted any existing application templates (For example, gnt2008v1.7.itp ) from your computer before proceeding. Note: Please ensure you have your java script enabled to download the template. You can enable this by selecting the preferences of your browser.

To download the new NHMRC Project Grant Application Template click and hold the mouse button on the NHMRC Project Grant Application Template hyperlink below and select Save this Link as. Save the file gnt2009v1.9.itp (Do not change this name) to your desktop. From the Format pull-down list change the option to 'Source', then click on Save. You may move it to a folder later once both the form and software have been downloaded if you wish. If you are using Netscape Navigator an additional message appears after clicking on Save, click on the option 'Save this file'.

Step 2

Do you already have Informed Filler installed on your computer? If you DO have it already installed, go to Step 7. If you DO NOT already have Informed Filler installed, click and hold the mouse button on the relevant hyperlink below and select 'Save this Link as.'.
Save the file ifill68k.hqx or ifillppc.hqx (Do not change this name) to your desktop. From the 'Format' drop-down list select the 'Source' option, then click on 'Save'.

Step 3.

Once the download process has completed, double click on 'ifiller.'
or 'ifill68k.hqx' or 'ifillppc.hqx', depending on which one is displayed on your desktop. If 'ifill68k.hqx' or 'ifillppc.hqx' is displayed, double click on it to decode the binhex, then double click on 'ifiller.', the newly created installer icon.

Step 4.

Click on Continue.

Step 5.

From the drop-down list at the bottom of the dialogue box select the install location you wish to install the software to. Click on 'Install'.

Step 6.

Then click on 'Quit'.

Step 7.

From the Informed folder that has automatically been created and opened, double click on the 'Informed Filler' icon. (The Informed folder may not be automatically open if you already have Informed Filler installed on your computer.)

Step 8.

Enter your Name and Organisation in the text boxes then click on 'OK'. (This step will not occur if you already have Informed Filler installed on your computer.)

Step 9.

Click on 'Accept' for the Informed Filler Licence Agreement. (This step will not occur if you already have Informed Filler installed on your computer.)

Step 10.

Click on 'Add Other Template'.

Step 11.

From the drop-down list at the top of the dialogue box select 'Desktop' or the location you downloaded the new NHMRC Project Grant Application Template (gnt2009v1.9.itp) to in Step 1. Select gnt2009v1.9.itp and click on 'Open'.

Note: Following Step 11, if an error occurs,

  1. Ensure no other programs are running
  2. Highlight the 'Informed Filler' icon
  3. Press down the "Apple" button and the letter "i"
  4. From the Informed Filler dialogue box, click on 'Show'
  5. Select 'Memory' from the drop down menu
  6. Set the minimum memory size to 8000k
  7. Set the preferred memory size to 8000k
  8. Close dialogue box
  9. Repeat Step 11

Step 12.

Double click on NHMRC Project Grant (or gnt2009v1.9.itp) from the left-hand menu of the dialogue box.

You have now successfully downloaded the software and opened the NHMRC Project grant application form.

Step 13.

Finally, it is important at this stage that you setup your Mail Preferences in Informed Filler prior to starting the Project Grant Application form. You must ensure you complete the 'Return E-Mail Address' field correctly, as this address will be used by the ONHMRC to send acknowledgments to you. To set up your Mail Preferences in Informed Filler do the following:
  1. Select 'Edit' from the main menu bar, then select 'Preferences' from the drop-down list.
  2. Click once on the Mail icon in the scrolling list, then click once on the 'Settings' button.
  3. Enter your SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) Server name and Return E-Mail Address (make sure it is correct). If unsure of your SMTP Server name contact your IT area for assistance. If they are unable to assist call the GrantNet Help Desk on 1800 500 983.
  4. Once you have entered these details click on 'OK', then click on 'Ok' again.

You have now completed setting up your Mail Preferences in Informed Filler. You are ready to complete the application form.
