Program Grant Frequently Asked Questions

New frequently asked questions will be added to this page as they arise.

Question:
How can I get an idea of the budget that NHMRC might offer if my application is successful?
Answer:
Each CI on a Program Grant application will receive a score from 0 to 60 for their record of research achievement.  Scores of 36 and above will fall into one of four quanta levels, each of which has a corresponding dollar amount.  (CIs may be awarded partial quanta depending on their time commitment to the program.)  The total value of all CIs’ quanta levels will be used to determine the budget offered to the applicant team.
The range of scores corresponding to the four quanta and the rates used for the application round that closed in February 2008 are as follows:

Score  Range

Question: If my Program Grant application is unsuccessful, can I apply in the next round?
Answer: Yes.

Question: Will there be two application rounds advertised per year?
Answer: This only occurred in 2007 for funding commencing in 2009. NHMRC expects that from 2008 there will be one round advertised in the first half of each year for funding to commence two years later, e.g. the application round advertised in 2008 is for funding to commence in 2010.

Question: What is ‘NHMRC research time’?
Answer: This is the amount of time spent participating in research funded by the NHMRC.
