Introduction
The Centres of Research Excellence (CRE) Scheme replaces the Centres for Clinical Research Excellence Scheme and the Capacity Building Grants in Population Health and Health Services Research.
The CRE Scheme seeks applications from teams of researchers to pursue innovative, high quality collaborative research activities in the following priority areas:
- Clinical Research
- Research into Asbestos Related Diseases
- Population Health Research
- Electromagnetic Energy Research
- Health Services Research
The CRE will build capacity, support research that will lead to improved community health outcomes, and ensure effective translation of research outcomes primarily into practice.
Funding will be awarded for a period of five years and is expected to commence in 2010.

New online application form
NHMRC is currently implementing a new Research Grants Management System (RGMS).
Further information on Research Grants Management System (RGMS) can be found at:
To facilitate the move to the new system, potential applicants for CRE Grants in 2009 who do not already have a RGMS login are required to submit their details to NHMRC using the form below.
The information provided in this form will enable NHMRC to provide applicants with a ‘Login’ to access the RGMS.
Important: The RGMS also provides an online Profile and CV function. This function is used when applying for all types of grants on the RGMS system. Relevant information from the Profile and CV will be uploaded automatically into application forms.
Once applicants receive their ‘Login’ they can, and are encouraged to, commence entering information into their Profile and CV. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that information is accurate.
