Independent Research Institute Infrastructure Support Scheme (IRIISS)

The NHMRC provides funding annually for overhead infrastructure costs for NHMRC accredited independent medical research institutes based on a proportion of competitive research funding being administered by the institute.

The IRIISS was established in response to reviews that have found overhead infrastructure costs for independent medical research institutes to be substantial. IRIISS commenced in January 2005.

Apply for Funding

No formal application is required for Infrastructure Grants under the Independent Research Institutes Infrastructure Support Scheme (IRIISS), but institutes are only eligible if they are NHMRC accredited independent medical research institutes. These grants are allocated annually to accredited institutions that hold competitively awarded NHMRC health and medical research grants in a particular funding year. IRIISS grants are 20% of awarded research funds.

  1. The Funding Policy details the eligibility criteria and administrative arrangements for the provision of overhead infrastructure support to NHMRC Accredited Independent Medical Research Institutes.
