Independent Research Institute Infrastructure Support Scheme (IRIISS)

The NHMRC provides funding annually for overhead infrastructure costs to NHMRC approved Administering Institutions that are independent medical research institutes.

The IRIISS was established in response to reviews that found overhead infrastructure costs for independent medical research institutes to be substantial. IRIISS commenced in January 2005.

Apply for Funding

No application is required for IRIISS funding. Grants are allocated annually to eligible Administering Institutions that hold competitively awarded NHMRC health and medical research grants in a particular funding year. IRIISS grants are up to 20% of awarded research funds in that year.

  1. The Funding Policy details the eligibility criteria and administrative arrangements for the provision of IRIISS Funding.
