To be eligible to receive funding, all Administering Institutions must sign a Funding Agreement. The Funding Agreement requires the Administering Institution to ensure that a Progress and Final Report for each grant is prepared by the Chief Investigator and is submitted to NHMRC by the date specified in the relevant Funding Rules.
The purpose of the Reports is to collect information about the progress and outcomes of the research. Information provided in the Reports is used to satisfy legal and whole of government reporting requirements in relation to its administration of funding. Reports are assessed by NHMRC staff. Failure to complete and submit reports may result in funding being suspended until the Report is provided, and may lead to grant holders being ineligible to apply for and receive further grants.
Research Support Schemes - Annual Progress Reports
All Research Support grants must submit an Annual Progress Report through RGMS.
Researcher Support Schemes - Mid-Term Progress Reports
With the exception of Scholarship grants, all People Support grants in RGMS require the submission of Mid-Term Progress Reports through RGMS.
User Guides for submitting Reports on RGMS
The following user guides are provided for CIAs and RAOs to assist submission of reports on RGMS:
Enabling Grants - Annual Progress Reports
For Enabling Grants the following templates should be used:
- Enabling Grants Annual Progress Report - Form B (PDF, 50KB)
- Enabling Grants Annual Progress Report - Form B (RTF, 117KB)
Final Reports
Final reports are required for all NHMRC funded projects. The final report enables the NHMRC to assess whether the objectives of the award have been achieved and also to gather information that may be useful in performance measurement activities and whole of government reporting. The NHMRC Research Achievements Summary may also be made available on the NHMRC website. The following templates should be used when completing the report.
- Instructions for Final Reports (PDF, 52KB)
- NHMRC End of Grant - Final Report (DOC, 318KB)
- Additional Supplement Form - Research Output Summary (XLS, 78KB)
Note that if confirmation is provided with the submission of the Final Report form that all relevant publications have been listed and linked to the appropriate grants within the Profile and CV section of RGMS, then submission of the additional supplement form is not required.
Scholarship Reporting
Annual Progress Reports – Scholarships
NHMRC no longer requires an annual statement from institutions on the progress of NHMRC scholars unless satisfactory progress has not been achieved. In this case, relevant information should be provided to the NHMRC by 31 December each year, via email to postaward.management@nhmrc.gov.au.
Final Reports – Scholarships
Within one month of completion of the Scholarship, the Scholar’s Supervisor is required to furnish a brief informative report describing the work performed and any publications arising during the tenure of the award. There are no reporting requirements for the Scholar.
