New user with an existing & active grant from NHMRC?
If you are an existing & active NHMRC grant recipient, an RGMS account has been created on your behalf. An email will be sent to you on 17 December 2009 with instructions detailing how to activate this account.
The RGMS Team will follow up any ‘bounced’ or ‘undeliverable’ emails to ensure they reach their recipient (e.g. this will be necessary in cases where a researcher has moved institutions and changed their email address since they were awarded an NHMRC grant.) A list of these undeliverable accounts was provided to your Research Administration Office in the week commencing 21 December 2009, and the RGMS Team anticipated connecting with most people affected by the end of December. If you have not yet received this email and intend using RGMS from 2010, please contact your RAO.

If you do NOT fall into one of the user categories listed above, you can request a new RGMS account by accessing the RGMS login page. Select the ’New User Request’ link and follow the prompts on-screen.

Background and Overview
NHMRC is currently replacing its existing IT system Research Management Information System (RMIS) and various satellite systems to enable improvements in the effectiveness and efficiency of its grants management functions. NHMRC commenced the design of an in-house ‘build’ solution to NHMRC grants administration reporting and financial management requirements in 2006. Funding considerations and the availability of improved commercial products resulted in NHMRC’s purchase of Clarity, a Computer Associates grants management system being used by nine Commonwealth Government departments and agencies.
Clarity is being implemented as NHMRC’s new Research Grants Management System (RGMS) and will replace the existing programme delivery support system that is now over 10 years old, with a robust, web-enabled solution.
RGMS will enable users to
- maintain a Curriculum Vitae (CV),
- make grant applications and manage awarded grants on-line,
- provide electronic entry and lodgement of expressions of interest, applications, assessments, questions, responses and milestones for all NHMRC grant schemes.
It will also improve access to information about the outputs and impact of Australian Government health and medical research funding and reduce administrative burdens for researchers, volunteer assessors, reviewers and NHMRC internal staff. The requirements previously identified by the NHMRC’s External User Reference Group during the in-house ‘build’ solution project are being incorporated into the new RGMS, which is highly configurable and will be managed by NHMRC staff.
