Expert Committees

The NHMRC currently has three expert advisory committees: the Cellular Therapies Advisory Committee, the Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies Advisory Committee, and the Water Quality Advisory Committee.

CTAC - Cellular Therapies Advisory Committee

The NHMRC is in the process of establishing an expert advisory committee (Cellular Therapies Advisory Committee – CTAC) to provide medical and technical advice to Human Research Ethics Committees (HRECs) on the clinical application of gene and related therapies, stem cells and xenotransplantation.

Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies Advisory Committee (TSEAC)

TSEAC provides expert advice to Australian governments on all matters necessary to prevent and limit the spread of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD) and other transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) in Australia. Note: in November 2006 the committee's changed from the Special Expert Committee on Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (SECTSE) to TSEAC.

(WQAC) - Water Quality Advisory Committee

In April 2007 the NHMRC established the Water Quality Advisory Committee (WQAC) to provide expert advice on health issues relating to water quality.
