Historical information on Chronic Disease Research Program - Unified Systems of Care

The SRDC called for Expressions of Interest for research into'Unified Systems of Care'. Funding for this particular call was for projects of up to 3 years.

Expressions of Interest

The Strategic Research Development Committee (SRDC), a principal committee of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), is tasked with developing a strategic research capability in areas where the research effort is not commensurate with the magnitude of its importance to health care in Australia.

With the Population Health Division of the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, the SRDC identified six research topics related to chronic disease. Total NHMRC funding of up to $3 million is available for research in these areas. Calls for research into these topics will be advertised progressively over the next 12 months.

The SRDC is now calling for Expressions of Interest for research into the first area: 'Unified Systems of Care'. Funding for this particular call is for projects of up to 3 years.

Research should focus on how effective a new unified system of care would be compared with existing arrangements. It is expected that research would need to look at coordinated care, incentive provision, outcome monitoring and system performance monitoring. Interest has also been expressed in systems of care that reduce the burden on carers of people with Chronic Disease.

Research projects should consider focusing on a specific group or area. One area of particular interest is research into unified systems of care programs for people aged over 65 years. However, it should be noted that the SRDC is also interested in research into chronic disease that addresses any, or some, of the following areas: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and rural health.
