Hilary Russell

Hilary Russell, COO of NHMRC

 

Hilary Russell is Chief Operations Officer (COO) of NHMRC. She is a graduate of the University of Melbourne and the Melbourne Business School and holds a Bachelor of Arts, DipEd, BSW and MBA. She is currently studying law at the Australian National University.

Hilary has held a range of senior executive appointments in the acute and community health sectors in Victoria. At Melbourne’s Royal Women’s Hospital, she managed the Research and Education Division and later headed the Hospital’s Planning, Development and Communications functions. She has led a range of significant state and national collaborations in the field of performance measurement and clinical guidelines.

In 1997, Hilary was appointed to the Board of the Victoria Parenting Centre. In 1998 she was appointed by Victoria’s Governor in Council to the Board of one of Victoria’s three state wide early parenting centres where she served as Board President for three years and was appointed Life Governor in 2005. 

In 2005 she moved to Canberra to take up the role as CEO of a regional diagnostic imaging company and joined NHMRC in 2007.

Her community involvement in the ACT has included Ministerial appointments to the ACT Australia Day Awards Committee, the Territory’s Ministerial Council for Women and the Capital Country Health Board.
